Joni is one of a handful of digital lawyers in Australia, highly regarded for her client advisory and policy work with respect to the legal and tax implications of blockchain and digital assets. On the policy front, Joni currently serves as a Key Contributor the the RegTech Working Group of the Department of Industry's National Blockchain Roadmap and leads the Blockchain Australia Gender & Diversity Working Group. In 2019, Joni was an Australian delegate to the OECD Global Blockchain Policy Forum in Paris and each year since 2017 has been actively involved in policy submissions to Australian, foreign and international policy makers.
Joni advises on decentralised models of governance, token offerings, centralised and decentralised exchanges, and digital asset acquisitions and dealings by individuals, funds and businesses. In 2018, Joni advised on the first exchange token offering in Australia, led an early engagement process with the Australian Taxation Office and prepared the world's first detailed tax disclosure to inform investors about the general tax consequences of acquiring and using the tokens.
Joni holds a Juris Doctor of Law from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from James Cook University, and is a qualified Australian lawyer and accountant holding Graduate Diplomas of Legal Practice and Chartered Accounting respectively.
